Krishna Pillai
Krishna Pillai was born in 1948 and had his schooling in India. He was awarded a First Class Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Aston in Birmingham in 1972 and received the IMI prize. His PhD was awarded by the same university in 1975. After post-doctoral work on solar energy at University College, Cardiff he joined the Coal Utilisation Research Laboratory and worked on clean coal technologies for the utilisation of coal. He was awarded the Bone-Wheeler Medal of the Institute of Fuel for a paper on gas combustion. He moved to Sweden in 1984 when he was recruited by Stal Laval in Finspång (later ABB). Gradually Research and Development gave way to Sales and he became responsible for the global sales of clean coal power plants for ABB.

He moved to Kobe in Japan in 1996 to lead ABB’s joint ventures with Kawasaki Heavy Industries for large gas turbines and for industrial steam turbines. When Alstom acquired ABB’s power generation business he was appointed Country President of the Alstom Group in India in 2000.

In 2006 he moved to Görlitz in Germany to help Siemens structure the industrial steam turbine business acquired from Alstom. He was responsible for global sales which grew from 350 million Euros to over 1.5 billion Euros and in 2009 he decided to step back and return to Sweden.

He is currently President of KKP Management Solutions, a mangement consultancy and spends his time writing and on selected assignments.

He is married with two sons.
